“It’s great to be in a hockey town!”

    From Chicago Tribune:

The newest Blackhawks got their first dose of Chicago traffic Thursday, finding slow going from O’Hare to the United Center for their introductory news conference.

Marian Hossa and Tomas Kopecky, who signed with the Hawks as free agents July 1 after spending last season with the rival Detroit Red Wings, figure to have smoother sailing once they hit the ice this season.

Before then, they will have time to acclimate to the city and its traffic patterns and also will get a first-hand look at the Hawks faithful during the 2nd Annual Blackhawks Convention this weekend at the Chicago Hilton.

Hossa is the organization’s newest star to show off, and the five-time NHL All-Star will be in the spotlight during the festivities that are expected to draw about 10,000 fans.

“It’s great to be in a hockey town,” said Hossa, who had 40 goals and 31 assists for the Wings last season. “This is a sports town, a great town. The city is great and the fans are great. There’s not much not to like about this city.

“Chicago is a young, enthusiastic team with lots of energy and … we’re going to be going slowly step-by-step up the hill. We believe we can reach our goal.”

That was an obvious jab by Marian Hossa at Detroit and their fans….or lack there of. Detroit has dubbed itself “Hockeytown” which might deserve the title after 20+ years of successful hockey, but the fans in Detroit just do not love or care about their team as much as a “Hockeytown” should. They have a hard time selling out Stanley Cup Final games. Much of that can be credited to the economy, which is obviously at its worse in Detroit.

Once the Lions start being good again, the Red Wings will fall back to the 4th favorite sport in Detroit, which is far from a “Hockeytown” in my books.

I thought it was more of a slip than a slam. Just my observation
