Dan Girardi should have done what Matt Bradley did for Alexander Ovechkin and jumped in there and protected Gaborik. No matter what the penalty is, he should have done something.
It is not a good idea to let your best player get his ass handed to him, even if Gaborik was asking for it. I hope Tortorella benches Girardi or at least puts him at the top of any trade offers for Kovalchuk or Lecavalier after this embarrassment…

that’s what all the phlyer phans say, “he dropped first”….looked pretty simultaneously, and even if he did drop a half second before, everyone would be saying gaborik is a wimp if he just “turtled”. everyone seems to forget that gaborik was grabbed from behind by carcinogen, who was skating in a direct bee line towards gaborik, who had his back turned. if anyone’s a pussy, it’s carcinogen. real tuff, grab a european sniper not named ovechkin from behind and challenge him. good for gaborik standing up for himself.
It’s nice to see Gaborik actually doing something tough for a change. Here’s a guy that sits out for weeks or months anytime he’s too sore to play. Biggest mistake the Rangers ever made. All that talent and no heart. It was refreshing to see him at least throw a few punches in an actual brawl. I figure if he racks up 800 PIMs or so this year, then I’ll stop considering him to be such a useless wimp.
