Marian Gaborik (New York Rangers) – $7.5 Million per season for 5 years. Holy magician Glen Sather. He basically just traded Scott Gomez for Marian Gaborik, while adding the Canadiens best prospect in doing so. Best GM of the offseason so far goes to the Rangers Glen Sather.
Marian Hossa (Chicago Blackhawks) - $5.2 Million per season for 12 frickin years!!!! Holy crap WTF signing of the day so for. Hes a steal at $5.2 Million, but how will this play out 7-12 years from now? Basically replaces Martin Havlat, and adds a few more goals as well.
Daniel & Henrik Sedin (Vancouver Canucks) – $6.1 Million per season for the next 5 years. Good signing by the Canucks. Now they just have to focus on Luongo.
Mike Cammalleri (Montreal Canadiens) – $6 Million per season for 5 years. Absolutely brilliant move by the Canadiens to bring him in. He will probably score 40+ goals while Scott Gomez assists on 90% of them.
Scott Gomez (Montreal Canaidens) – Huge question mark as to why he was brought in a lopsided trade in the favor of the Rangers. Now we know….to center Alex Kovalev and Mike Cammalleri. That will be one scary line! Huge plus for the Canandiens and I expect a career year for Gomez next season.
Brian Gionta (Montreal Canadiens) – $5 Million per season for 5 years. We are officially going to see a whole new Canadiens team next season. Beyond impressed with the moves they made today. Spent too much on Gionta but as long as they have the money to spend, it works.
Martin Havlat (Minnesota Wild) - $5 Million per season for 6 years. I know the Wild had to replace Gaborik with someone, but Havlat is basically 80% of Gaborik talent wise and just as fragile. Decent move, but I dont see how the Wild are any better than they were at the end of last season. They should bring in Saku Koivu.
Nikolai Khabibulin (Edmonton Oilers) – $3.75 Million per season for 4 years. Edmonton picks up a great goaltender, but he is currently 36 years old. 4 years is a little more than I would have given him. 2 should have been more realistic.
Dwayne Roloson (New York Islanders) – $2.5 Million per season for 2 years. NYI picks up a very solid/expensive backup? Or are they assuming Ricky D might not be available too often.
Mike Komisarek (Toronto Maple Leafs) – Great pickup for an amazing defensive defenseman. If Leafs fans are expecting him to put up a ton of points, they will be disappointed, but he will keep many many goals out of the net, which the Leafs need help with.
Jaroslav Spacek (Montreal Canadiens) – $3.83 Million per season for 3 years. Montreal picks up a solid defenseman who also has a decent offensive upside. Good pickup I guess….
Hal Gill (Montreal Canadiens) - $2.25 Million per season for 2 years. Another solid defenseman, but I would rather have Mike Komisarek than both Spacek and Gill. Either way Montreal is going to look like a brand new team next season. I am still not sold on Carey Price though. I think he will continue to be the achilles heel for the Habs.
Mike Knuble (Washington Capitals) -$2.8 Million per season for 2 years. Very solid player and will just add to the Caps offense. Now they just need to fix some holes in their defense.
John Madden (Chicago Blackhawks) – $2.75 Million per season for 1 year. Great defenseman. Huge pickup for the Blackhawks who are having a great offseason so far.
Brian Boucher (Philadelphia Flyers) – $900K per season for 2 years. So I guess it is safe to assume that Nittymaki and Biron are 100% out the door. The Flyers have a sick forward and defensive crop and two very average – below average goaltender with Boucher and Emery. Not impressed with these decisions.
Mattias Ohlund (Tampa Bay Lightning) – $3.5 Million per season for 7 years! He is a great deal at $2.5 Mil, but for 7 years is a bit much for a defensemen who is most likely coming out of his prime.
Ian Laperriere (Philadelphia Flyers) – $1.17 Million per season for 3 years. Great pickup for a great team player who will only add to the Flyers toughness.
Sami Pahlsson (Columbus Blue Jackets) - $2.65 Million per season for 3 years. I guess I am missing something here, but I have yet to see what is so special about this guy. He was pretty useless for the Hawks in the playoffs. Not impressed.
Mathieu Garon (Columbus Blue Jackets) – $1.2 Million per season for 2 years. Very solid backup for Steve Mason. Good pickup.
Fredrick Sjostrom (Calgary Flames) -
Rob Scuderi (Los Angeles Kings) – $3.4 Million per season for 3 years. Finally the Kings sign someone. After striking out on Hossa, Havlat, and Gaborik. They still need some offense though…Kovalev, Koivu, Tanguay?
Craig Anderson (Colorado Avalanche) -$1.8 Million per season for 2 years. Is he going to backup Budaj or the other way around. The Avs now have two very average goaltenders. Looks like they want to tank for a few years…
Scott Clemensson (Florida Panthers) – $1.2 Million per season for 3 years. Amazing back up as we’ve seen in New Jersey. Perfect for Vokoun.
Ty Conklin (St. Louis Blues) – $1.3 Million per season for 2 years. This guy bounces around more than anyone. I guess good pickup.
Colton Orr (Toronto Maple Leafs) – $1 Million per season for 4 years. Arguably the best tough guy in the NHL and improves his overall game every season. Solid pickup.
Donald Brashear (New York Rangers) -$1.4 Million per season for 2 years. WTF was Glen Sather thinking with this one. Yes he is a good 4th liner who is obviously very tough, but he takes stupid penalties very often. He is an offensive updrade barely from Colton Orr. Sather just brought in the most hated player among Rangers fans. Anyone remember when he basically killed Blair Betts a little over a month ago???
