Also, my Swedish little birdie sources tell me Peter Forsberg plans to play for the Swedish national team in the upcoming Karjala Cup – a four-team European tourney featuring the Swedes, Russia, Finland and the Czech Republic. The tourney is from Nov. 5-8, and these sources say Foppa will make a decision soon after about whether to give it another try in the NHL.
The stress fracture in his foot has apparently healed sufficiently and he is skating again now.
There should be plenty of NHL scouts on hand for the tournament, eh? (By the way, Forsberg does not lose his eligibility to play in the NHL by playing in this tournament, as it’s not under a paid contract situation, etc. He would lose his eligibility if he played a pro game for MoDo or any other European team).
For those wondering what I think will happen with Foppa: I do think he’ll try to play in the NHL this year. But I’m skeptical it will be with the Avs this time. While nobody from the front has said anything about him, the vibe I’ve gotten so far is that they are committed to this youth/rebuilding thing and that’s it.
We all know the potential problems Forsberg can bring with him, all relating to his health.
