NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan ruled against further action for Boston Bruins winger Milan Lucic for a hit that left Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller with a concussion.

Shanahan conducted a hearing Monday but said that he found no intent on Lucic’s part.

“I had the hearing because I did make an initial assessment of the play as I do with all plays, but I did have some questions for Milan and I wanted to hear directly from him,” Shanahan told NHL.com. “They were regarding his intent; at what point did he know there was going to be a collision; and whether or not he felt he had the time to avoid the collision. I was satisfied with his answers.”

On the play Saturday in Boston, Lucic lost control of the puck on a potential breakaway in the first period and Miller came out of his crease to play the puck away from the winger in the faceoff circle. Lucic collided with Miller, knocking off his mask.

Miller remained in the game but left after the second period with what coach Lindy Ruff called a sore neck. The Sabres revealed the concussion Sunday night when they said that they were recalling Drew McIntyre.

Miller had harsh words for Lucic after the game.

Lucic has “50 pounds on me and he runs me like that? It’s unbelievable,” Miller said. “Everyone in this city sees him as a big tough solid player. I respected him for how hard he played. That was gutless.”

Lucic told the Boston Globe: “I just put my head down and tried to get to it first. Next thing I looked up, he’s out of his net and it was a collision. Going into a situation like that, I’m going to brace myself. I was going full speed. So it’s pretty hard for me to put on the brakes.”

Lucic received a minor penalty for charging on the play.

According to NHL rules on goaltender interference: “A goalkeeper is not ‘fair game’ just because he is outside the goal crease. The appropriate penalty should be assessed in every case where an attacking player makes unnecessary contact with the goalkeeper. However, incidental contact will be permitted when the goalkeeper is in the act of playing the puck outside his goal crease provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such unnecessary contact.”

Shanahan has handed out 14 suspensions since the preseason began but also has declined to discipline players if he feels the opponent’s head wasn’t targeted.

Lucic has been one of the better Bruins players of late. After getting one point in his first six games, he has 13 points in his last nine.

Jhonas Enroth, who has played well this season as Miller’s backup, will be the No. 1 goalie until Miller returns.

Stanley Cup hero Milan Lucic was questioned by police early yesterday after he and his girlfriend got into an altercation in the North End.

According to a police report of the incident, the Bruins left winger was “highly intoxicated and hostile” after he and his galpal argued outside a Starbucks on Commercial Street shortly before 1:30 a.m.

Witnesses told police the 6-foot-4, 220-pound hockey player was yelling at his girlfriend, who was on the ground, and at one point threw her shoes and purse at her. However, the woman told police she was not physically assaulted and “was adamant about not being harmed,” the report states. Police “did not observe any visible injuries,” the report says, and Lucic was not charged.

Bruins spokesman Matt Chmura confirmed that the team was “aware of an incident that took place in the North End early Tuesday morning involving Milan Lucic.”

“We are addressing the matter internally,” Chmura said. “At this time we have no further comment.”

Lucic’s marketing rep, Cleon Daskalakis, president of Celebrity Marketing, spoke to the hockey star yesterday after he was contacted by the Herald and said Lucic told him, “ ‘Yeah, we created some noise,’ ” but that it was “a complete misunderstanding” and “everything’s great with us.”

“There’s times in a relationship when things get a little louder than they should and one thing leads to another,” Daskalakis said, “but I know there’s no way Milan would raise a hand to her. He loves her. The situation sounds a lot worse than it was.”

Daskalakis said the left winger would not be issuing a statement. “It’s a private matter,” he said. “No one was hurt. No one was charged.”

According to the police report, patrons outside the Four Winds bar told them that a female wearing a silver-sequined dress ran up Fleet Street crying while a man in a black T-shirt with No. 22 on it followed behind her. Police questioned Lucic outside his condo and he told them: “My girlfriend is upstairs. We had an argument. We’re fine. Why are you here at my house?”

As the officer continued to question Lucic, he “slammed his cell phone to the ground and yelled ‘Do you know who I am?’ ” the police report states. At which point, the officer asked for identification and Lucic produced an ID from Vancouver, Canada.

Because no witnesses observed any physical assault and the girlfriend told police she “was not touched,” Lucic was not charged, but both he and his galpal “were informed of their rights under MGL 209A,” (Massachusetts General Laws on abuse prevention) the report states.

Daskalakis said Lucic has been under “a lot of pressure” since the B’s won the Stanley Cup, but stressed, “He’s a great guy.”

“He’s one of the nicest people you could possibly ever meet,” Daskalakis said. “You’d want him dating your daughter. He’s held to a higher standard. I honestly believe he’s upholding that standard.”
