Buffalo Sabres forward Ville Leino has been suspended, without pay, for one game for elbowing Philadelphia Flyers forward Matt Read during NHL Game #403 in Buffalo on Wednesday, Dec. 7, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary,  Leino will forfeit $24,324.32. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 1:32 of the third period. No penalty was assessed on the play.

Leino will miss the Dec. 9 game vs. Florida. He will be eligible to return Dec. 10 vs. the New York Rangers.

Colorado Avalanche forward Kevin Porter has been suspended, without pay, for four games for kneeing Vancouver Canucks forward David Booth during NHL Game #399 in Vancouver on Tuesday, Dec. 6, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Porter will forfeit $18,378.36. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 11:52 of the first period. Porter was assessed a major penalty for kneeing and a game misconduct.

Porter will miss games tonight vs. Calgary, Dec. 9 vs. Edmonton, Dec. 13 vs. San Jose and Dec. 15 at San Jose. He will be eligible to return Dec. 17 vs. Washington.
