Alexander Ovechkin Will Pass Wayne Gretzky in Career Goals!

Wow…Ovechkin almost lost his head! He had no fear at all and at the very last second he just bends his head back like it was no big deal. I absolutely love this guy! He is insane!

—————————————————————————————

Anyways a few post back, I looked into the potential of Ilya Kovalchuk to pass Wayne Gretzky in total goals for his career and found that he has a very realistic chance of doing it.

Now I am going to look into Ovechkin’s possibility to pass The Great One:

Here are Alexander Ovechkin’s goal totals:

2005-06 – 52

2006-07 – 46

2007-08 – 65

2008-09 – 44 currently in 59 games. (I am assuming he hits 55 goals by the end of this season).

Total – 217 goals

Alex is currently 23 years old. Here are potential goal averages for his career. We can assume he might have a few more 60+ goal seasons and a few 20+ goal seasons in the later years.

Assuming he plays until he is 40 (21 Seasons):

25 goals per season: 643

30 goals per season: 728

35 goals per season: 813

40 goals per season: 898

45 goals per season: 983

50 goals per season: 1068

Wayne Gretzky finished with 894 goals and averaged about 44 goals over his career. Granted it was a completely different game in the 80′s and Wayne has virtually an injury-free career, so this is all speculation.

Assuming Alexander Ovechkin can put up consistent numbers and stay healthy, there is a solid chance he could not only pass Wayne Gretzky, but could possibly reach 1000 goals!

The Great 8 could possibly replace the Great One in the record books! Think about that….

Yeah, I’d like to swap links. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you.

Ovechkin is insane. Just think if he seriously injured himself doing that and it was caught on camera as an act of negligence.

  2. Vince says:

The big thing that I think will be the issue is his physical style of play, which will make it harder and harder for him to stay healthy…

    Only time will tell though…

  3. Misshockey says:

I agree with Vince, that;s why Mario couldn’t.

well,, go caps go go ovie go and go everyone who says caps and ovie rock..there outta the playoffs who cares…well i do but watever

i didn’t even read what you people said, but I don’t need to! OV is great, but he’d have to score 50 goals a season for 18 years to score more goals than Gretzky. C’mon! The way he plays, he will not play 18 seasons. He will get older, he will get slower and the injuries will mount. Gretz will hold the record for 894 goals for a LLLOOOONNNNGGG time.

Well Ovechkin could easily break the goal record thats one record of gretzkys thats breakable by a great player but to break his other records you need a great great player the only guys at that caliber would be gretzky mario and orr. but I think he will be getting injured every second season missing like 20-30 games in those season and then he will call it quits early even though he loves hockey he will have to by like 37.

There are two problems with Ovie surpassing The Great One. #1 He is a very physical player (as many of you noted) and isn’t likely to play at the level he is now forever. If you don’t agree, look at Eric Lindros. #2 Ovie still hasn’t shown he’s much more than a flash-in-the-pan. Yes he won the scoring title twice, yes he has some mad skills, but he isn’t a team player –the Capitals score more goals per game when he was out of the line-up this season. His and, consequently, Russia’s performance at the Olympics bear this out. He was totally unable to adapt his style of play to help his team in any measurable way. Your truly great players (Orr, Mario, Gretzky, et al) elevate the play and the players around them. Ovie plays very selfish and not as a complete player. As soon as the other teams develop a way to punish the Caps because he floats around the blue line to wait for breakaways, his amazing scoring stats will die.

LMFAO I THOUGHT I WAS DREAMING WHEN I SAW SOME RETARD THINK OVECHKIN WOULD GET MORE GOALS THEN GRETZKY, BUT SAYING HE WILL GET 50 EVERY SEASON PROVES YOU ARE A RETARD. IT DOESNT MATTER HE PROB WONT EVEN GET 700 YOU DUMB CUNT. AND HE DEFINABLY IS NOT GOING TO WIN A CUP BEING A PUCKHOG,

WHEN IT ALL GOES DOWN CROSBY WILL BE THE GREATEST HOCKEY PLAYER EVER (JUST WAIT TILL HE HITS HIS PRIME) AND OVI WILL BE FORGOTTEN LIKE PAVEL BURE

Although I think it’s a long shot he breaks the record due to what was mentioned (injuries, playingt style) i think he has one thing going for him is that sports and fitness medicine have come a long way in the past twenty years. Lots of players are playing older. Besides that he is a wonderful player and in my mind the best offensive talent in the league, very value with those kinds of sniping abilities. As for the idiot above me, having knowledge proves points (not capital letters) as for sidney crysbaby i don’t think he’s any more valuable than any other playmaking centre (snipers more rare in my mind). Plus if he cant keep that bottom lip tucked in i’m sure less and less skilled players will be willing to join his cause. Sorry to say it, ovechkin is better hands down

  11. brett=clueless says:

lmao you little homo. anyone who knows hockey knows for a fact CROSBY has the choice to be a goal scorer at a higher level then OVI and we don’t need to talk about play making because Crosby has made the best passing plays in NHL history already. What happened when they went head to head in the playoffs? Crosby beat OVI at his own game. What happened this season? Crosby outscored OVI taking 60 less shots, games do not matter because OVI still didn’t score on the 60 extra chances he had. Notice that both instances of OVI getting outplayed at his own game Crosby shot a lot more, so if Crosby comes within 80% of OVIs shot total he will always outscore him because OVI needs more shots to score on Crosby’s level. Ovi’s assists come from his rebounds. Enough said.

Point blank Crosby has the choice to be a goal scorer or playmaker, but he isn’t selfish, yo u would know if you watched his games. I watch OVI he is selfish and has no passing abilities to say the least. OVI is one dimensional and the fact that he won the Lindsay award while playing with semin/knuble backtrom on his line while Crosby put up 109 and his line mates put up only 77 COMBINED proves the NHL has as much hate for him as the OVI rejects.

    Crosby> OVI

Goodbye idiot. BTW I like OVI more he’s funny and should be the face of the NHL, but he is def not better then Crosby who isn’t even his prime yet.
