New York Rangers coach John Tortorella confirmed Wednesday morning that Marian Gaborik would be out of the lineup for the Rangers’ game against the Islanders.
“He won’t be playing tonight,” Tortorella said after the morning skate at the Nassau Coliseum. “I’m not going to get into what he has.”
Tortorella indicated Gaborik’s injury is not related to the hip, groin and back ailments that forced Gaborik to miss 65 games in 2008-09, his last season with the Minnesota Wild . The coach also said, “I have no idea” when asked when Gaborik will be able to return to the lineup. The Rangers’ next game after facing the Islanders is on Friday in Minnesota.
