The Flyers said this afternoon that goaltender Ray Emery will miss the rest of the season because he will have surgery on his right hip.
“He is suffering from avascular necrosis and will have a bone graft done to alleviate his hip issues,” general manager Paul Holmgren said in a statement.
The Flyers hoped Emery would solve their goaltending issues this season, but the plan did not work out as designed.
Emery, 27, was 16-11-1 with a 2.64 goals-against average and .905 save percentage, including three shutouts, in 29 games this season.
The Flyers were scheduled to play Tampa tonight.
