Per SportsHaze:
Coming into the off season, the Detroit Red Wings were looking to do a couple of things.
1) Figuring out what Lidstrom’s plans were and either letting him go to retirement, or talking contract with him.
2) After solving that issue, looking to lock up their restricted free agents and Tomas Holmstrom.
After finding out what Lidstrom wanted to do, which was sign a year deal, Detroit went after Tomas Holmstrom. He re-signed at a very generous 2 year deal at $1,875,000 to be received in each year. Followed was the resigning of Drew Miller and Patrick Eaves and Mattias Ritola.
Than came the announcement from the Dallas Stars that they will not be resigning their franchise star Mike Modano.
Mike Modano ended up mentioning that there are only a handful of places where he would play, including the Detroit Red Wings.
Ken Holland started his hunt. And on August 3rd, Modano hand mentioned in a text to the Detroit Free Press that he was going to become a Red Wing. Today, August 6th, the deal was made official.
Mike Modano is now a Red Wing after being a career Star, from Minnesota to Dallas.
Modano signed a 1 year, $1,750,000 million dollar contract to be a Red Wing, and even at age 40, still wants to win.
Mike Modano, born in Livonia, Michigan, brings over ‘Star’ studded numbers to the Red Wings. The signing gives the Wings the opportunity to use all four lines throughout the season, and strength in the center position from lines one to four.
Modano is predicted to center the third line, with returnee Jiri Hudler and Dan Cleary on either side.
Helping the Wings winning the cup this year would be a sweet ending to the US’s greatest player.
Bringing the Cup home, to where it all started for Mike.
