Per TSN:
One day after the Edmonton Oilers announced they’re out of the running for Dany Heatley‘s services; it appears that the disgruntled winger’s request to leave the nation’s capital isn’t dead.
According to a report in the Ottawa Sun, Senators GM Bryan Murray could have ”an option” to move Heatley to San Jose but it would need a third team involved – possibly the Montreal Canadiens – to facilitate a trade.
The newspaper reported that the Sharks have shown interest in the two-time 50-goal scorer, but what they’re offering isn’t intriguing Murray. According to the report, the Sharks have tabled a package that includes winger Jonathan Cheechoo, along with defenceman Christian Erhoff and a first-round selection.
”If the Sharks don’t have what the Senators want, then (GM) Doug Wilson might have to go get it from another team,” a league executive told Sun Media on Saturday. ”The Senators want a proven scoring winger in return and that means you might have to get a third team involved.”
A source told The Sun that a third team could be the Canadiens, but wasn’t sure what San Jose could acquire from Montreal to satisfy the Senators’ needs to deal Heatley.
Heatley, according to the report, would be willing to waive his no-movement clause to go to the Sharks.
”This is all up to Doug Wilson. If he wants to make big changes, this is the biggest one he can make,” said a league executive.
Holy rumor that actually makes sense! This would definitely push San Jose over the top and most likely give them the edge they need to make it to the Cup Finals. Joe Thornton and Dany Heatley together! Wow that is scary!
Hmmm, now if the Canadiens are involved somehow, who would they add to the package to make this happen?
To San Jose: Dany Heatley (7.5M)
To Ottawa: Andrei Markov?? (5.75M)
To Montreal: Jonathan Cheechoo (3M), Christian Ehroff (3.1M), San Jose’s 2010 1st round pick
That wouldn’t be the smartest move by the Canadiens to trade their best defenseman, but he is the only one that makes sense unless they trade one of Gomez, Cammalleri, or Gionta who they just acquired.
Makes more sense that Montreal is not involved at all and it is just Heatley for Erhoff, Cheechoo, and a 1st.

Hmmm, this deal looks real nice, but are trying to tell me that the biggest piece of this trade only yields Markov? In other words, Ottawa gives up Heatley for Markov. Montreal gives up Markov and gets Cheechoo, Ehrhoff and SJ 1st Rd Pk.
The only part that makes sense is SJ ending up with Heatley, and that SJ gives up Cheechoo, Ehrhoff and 1st Rd Pk to get him.
Its a pretty close tho….It favors Montreal and SJ in my opinion….
I totally agree. It would make more sense for just SJ and OTT to be involved and trade Heatley for Cheechoo, Ehroff, and a 1st.
But the article said Montreal is involved somewhere. Ott wants a winger though so Markov wouldnt really make sense. The only players that would are Cammalleri or Gionta, but I doubt MTL would trade them right after they signed him.
Who knows. I just want Heatley to go somewhere and get this whole drama filled offseason over with.
